Rural scenes - Historical. 600 year old market town under threat of closure. Photograph shows the impassable state of the road during the cattle sale in Modbury village, Devon, in June 1934. The fair and cattle market, which has been held periodically in the main street for 600 years, was in danger of being cosed due to increasing traffic, an image used to promote milk by The Milk Marketing Board. One of a collection of photographs (approximately 1260) and slides (approximately 1000), representing the work of the Milk Marketing Board, 1933-94.
