desert ArtLAB is an American desert based initiative exploring (dis)connections between ecology, culture and community. Through multimedia performance and social art desert ArtLAB seeks to question what we forfeit when our relationship with native desert ecology is sacrificed for a more manufactured environment. The project utilizes urban space and cactus as tools to engage residents to reclaim desert ecology through ecological intervention, multimedia performance, visual, and social art. desert ArtLAB seeks to inform a discourse of desert urban landscape, while challenging desert dwellers to consider how native ecology can inform identity, equality and the sustainability of desert culture and communities. desert ArtLAB projects have been exhibited and presented at international and US venues; have been the subject of local media attention; and have been honored by Phoenix Mayor, Phil Gordon.
